I don’t know about you but the recent breach of the ministerial code by a few and the sleaze that goes on with some other high-profile people exasperates me!
Do they think we’re all numpties?
Do they think their high profile protects them?
Do they think they won’t be found out?
And…
While we can be shocked at their wrongdoing, who of us has never taken a few pens from work, or had a longer lunch break on the sly? Or told a friend she looked lovely in a dress that she loved but didn’t do her any favours? Or feigned sickness or a family need to get out of something we just didn’t want to do?
Mea culpa for sure!
‘It’s all a matter of scale,’ you might say and you would have a point. Yet, when you come down to it, it’s all a lack of integrity and telling porkies.
If you’re beginning to squirm, hold on because…
IT’S NOT YOUR FAULT!
Well, it is, in a way given you are the only one responsible for your own behaviour BUT most of us were brought up in cultures that promote those minor breaches as ‘perks’ or ‘white lies’ that are perfectly acceptable.
It’s only when ‘privileged’ people have the chutzpah to commit ginormous perks or lies, white or otherwise, that we get exasperated and feel as if they’ve wronged us in some way!
It’s totally and awfully unfair…
Suddenly I feel like a two-year-old having a tantrum… How astonishingly ludicrous we humans can be… I can be!
As I type that, my heart opens up with love for all of us blundering around in our earth space suits trying to do the best we can at any one time with the resources we have right then…
One of those resources is innate integrity, a deeper and spiritual sense of what’s right/what’s not right, what’s so/what’s not so. And it’s been said that if all human beings listened to their innate integrity we would have no need for laws.*
Pretty awesome, eh?
Do I always listen to my innate integrity?
Do I heck!
As I say to my students, ‘If you want enlightenment, have you got 3,000 years?’
That doesn’t mean I can’t learn to listen more to my innate integrity.
Indeed, learning to listen more is part of ‘Your Spiritual Watermark’ module in my Down and Dirty Spirituality School. As is finding your unique spiritual watermark, your spiritual ‘flavour’ so you can successfully live more aligned with what you’re meant to be doing here on earth.
