I absolutely adore her reaction…

There’s a video clip of Meryl Streep speaking about how women speak ‘men.’ She says we’re brought up in their houses and learn through conditioning in a male-entitled culture to speak ‘men.’

But men don’t speak ‘women.’

And then?

Then, the proof of the pudding is totally in the eating when Martin Scorsese interjects.

You have to experience what happened next so no spoiler alerts!

The video clip is just 44 seconds long in a LinkedIn post and you can see it here…

I wonder whether she would feel as free in her reaction if she hadn’t been wearing trousers.

Ironic, eh?

Now, I’m sure Scorsese cleverly made his comment on purpose for the laugh. But, on a serious note, a man mansplaining what a woman says isn’t uncommon.

My response in the past has been, hamming it up a bit, ‘Thank you so much for clarifying what I said. However, you missed……….’

Insert after ‘missed,’ e.g., ‘the essence of my point which is…’ This gives you an opportunity to amplify what you said.

Or insert, e.g., ‘the impact of xyz is…’ Another opportunity to amplify what you said.

If you can’t find something he missed, simply say, after the ‘thank you,’ ‘I’m glad you recognised the importance of xyz’ and paraphrase what you just said previously. Another amplification opportunity.

Equally delicious is interjecting with an amplification after a man has mansplained what another woman has said.

The sisterhood at her best!

I can hear the divine feminine chortling as she reads all this.

However, part of me slaps my hand for the sarcasm in my response but, you know what, I don’t give a fig. Making it theatrical gives it impact and the man in question might just think twice about explaining away what a woman says in the future.

ENOUGH of explaining away what women say!

Let’s call out mansplaining for the patronising patriarchal crap it is.

The world and humanity desperately need women’s ‘speak’ to be heard, listened to and understood, loud and clear.

We’ll only achieve that through amplifying what we women say, both for ourselves and others.

Are you with me, woman?

Are you with me?
