Midlife’s a funny old thing.
You spend energy, time, and effort when you’re younger to build a life.
For some women, this means marriage or a partnership, a mortgage, and children. For others, it means a career, or a career combined with marriage, partnership, mortgage, and possibly children.
And for yet others it means singledom either by choice or that’s how it turned out, with or without any of the foregoing components.
BTW when will the powers that be remove ‘divorced’ from the status checklist? I’m a single woman in my own right, not an appendage of a dissolved marriage!
Anyhow…
Many women get to midlife, and suddenly, it’s “What happened?”
The years have flown by without you noticing, and you wake up to a changing body, “hello peri-menopause and the main event!”, a same-old-same-old life and wonder what life’s all about!
It’s classic; the mid-life crisis, recognised and documented so well by Carl Jung, a Swiss psychiatrist, psychotherapist, and psychologist.
You might not buy the motorbike or swap your partner for a younger model, as some men do at this time of life. But it’s the same phenomenon.
Having to come to terms with passing youth, sometimes a spreading waistline, and a Wild Soul calling you to stop, look within and revitalise who you really are and where you’re going.
Because it’s a potentially rich stage of human development.
It can be a rite of passage to a more enriching life, full of meaning and purpose, and potentially a renewed you more in line with who you were designed to be rather than conditioned to be.
And midlife prepares you for an impressive autumn and winter, even as a wild elder yourself…
So, having long gone through this stage myself, grab it, woman…
Just grab it!
