What you see is what you get!
Whenever someone tells me that about themselves, a warning alarm goes off.
If that’s true, why proclaim it?
It reminds me of a time when I was looking to move house and found one that suited me. The owner reassured me several times that “all my (their) cards were on the table,” my offer was acceptable, and the house was mine.
Two weeks later, when the house-buying process was in motion, they rang to say they had a cash buyer, and the house was no longer mine… Disappointment central!
Then, a few weeks later, they rang again to ask if I was still interested, as their cash buyer deal had fallen through. Guess where I told them to go in the nicest way possible.
If the house had been mine, why still have it on the market?
And I learned that when you get the intuitive hit that “the lady doth protest too much”, trust it!

Well, that too is deceptive!
In a world where lying seems to be the “new black”, where fake news abounds, when the kidders suggest it’s you who’s not being honest, ya-di-ya-di-ya WE NEED TO DISCERN BETWEEN WHAT IS AND ISN’T THE TRUTH.
Now there’s a horny philosophical problem. How on earth do we discern that? To save you a headache, as a general rule of thumb, the theorists yak on about the truth being relative.
But when it comes to people, trust your gut… Trust that sense of something you can’t quite put your finger on or that physical sensation that conveys “something’s not quite right here.”
Otherwise known as your bullshit detector!
And if you’re someone who tells everyone, “What you see is what you get,” stop trying to fool us… and yourself.
