“We need to be more honest with ourselves and each other!”
When I heard those words on Monday, spoken by a gorgeous woman in whose group I’m in, they banged around my mind with high velocity!
YES!
Such a simple sentence, yet when I think of it in terms of midlife, psychotherapy coaching, and today’s crazy world, it becomes a call to action.
I know I bang on about things, but the reality is that the macrocosm reflects the microcosm and vice versa…
Across the world, countries struggle with instability, shifting alliances, rising populism (grrr!), and widespread fear. Now, I’m not saying it’s exactly the same in midlife, but these large-scale tensions mirror what many women feel inside…
What once felt certain can seem to be shifting beneath our very feet in midlife.
Just as countries are facing long-avoided truths, you get asked to face the beliefs, patterns, and unresolved emotions you’ve pushed aside for years. It’s not freakin’ comfortable, it’s evolution knocking at your door!
AND…
In my Wild Soul psycho-coaching, honesty is not just a virtue, as without it, there is no therapy; it’s also the bedrock of transformation.
When you begin to recognise your inner contradictions, unmet needs, and long-silenced desires, you reclaim your agency, your power. You’re no longer on autopilot but can start living intentionally and make choices about what’s right for you and not right for you.
It’s the same collectively!
Geopolitical conflict can increase when leaders, cultures, and systems refuse to face the truth about issues such as inequality, trauma, collective fears, or the abuse of power.
And we only have to look across the pond to see some of what goes on in our own backyard writ exceptionally large!
Make no mistake, this midlife journey is a potential rite of passage that offers us women a unique opportunity.
We become aware of how much time is behind us and how precious the time ahead is, and we ask, “Is this it?” or reflect that “there has to be more to life than this!” all with exasperation. And…
In the messy wash of feelings, thoughts, and sensations, seek and you can find honesty beneath the mask of “I’m fine!”
It’s courageous to say, “I’m not fulfilled,” or “I yearn for something different, something more,” or even “I need help.”
Saying such things is a radical act in a world that encourages performance over realness. Check out your social media of choice to verify what I’m saying here!
And with so much divisiveness, conflict and hatred around the globe, the personal work you and I do matters.
Remember the microcosm/macrocosm thing?
When you and I clean up our act, develop more emotional maturity, compassion, and clarity, we, in our own circles of influence, model those energies. So…
When you and I heal and grow, relationships worth having improve, and so communities can become more stable. And when they stabilise, countries have a foundation to breed wiser leadership and more peaceful choices.
OK… you might think I’m in la-la land, but if we don’t play the long game, a vision of how things could be, how are they ever going to change for humanity’s and planet Earth’s highest good?
I might not see it in my lifetime, but I can work to make it so. If each of us, like grains of sand, does the work, honesty then is not just for personal growth but for collective healing too…
What say you, woman?
