Wooo-hooo… It’s Boxing Day!
And, no, this is not fresh off the press.
I’ve written it in advance… even The Wild Elder gets time off for good behaviour… So if something momentous has happened in the world in the meantime, please forgive its lack of mention.
And, by momentous, I mean something like a universal cease-fire, worldwide commitment to goodwill and collaboration or the ability for clean energy to go live now!
A woman can dream, can’t she?
Anyhow, as well as being a public bank holiday, Boxing Day was so named because well-off Victorians would ‘box up’ gifts to give to the poor on the day after Christmas.
Servants were given the day off to visit their families and looked forward to receiving a ‘Christmas box’ from their employers. Jolly dee… Paternalistic society in all its glory!
However, having a spiritual Boxing Day gift box for each of your loved ones sounds gorgeous to me.
