When the world’s going crazy, and you’re up to your eyes, there’s a place for escapism as a safety valve, as respite care.
Going to the “movies” during World War II was one such valve.
Apart from propaganda and the Ministry of Health education shorts, filmmakers pumped out two kinds: the heroic action-packed movie that stirred your heart for king and country or the Hollywood glitzy glamour movies, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers dancing their feet off in several!
Thankfully, it is not now in the UK as it was during the war. However, we’re bombarded by news of war, famine and people’s inhumanity from around the globe and its horrors.
I don’t have to tell you the atrocity of it all… You see it on your screens.
That all started with media coverage in the 60s of the Vietnam War and the Biafran famine; flame torched children and emaciated, starving ones!
Your eyes might have flicked quickly over that last bit.
There is only so much we can take psycho-emotionally and, I guess, spiritually. If our personality is in pain, our Wild Souls must be tortured by what we currently see and hear.
One way to cope is to get involved in any way you can. That can be anything from being physically involved to supporting posts that call for peace and humanity, and/or donating money for altruistic causes.
AND…
I would advocate that a bit of escapism never goes amiss.
What’s yours?
Retail therapy, alcohol, and being a workaholic, for example, are all distractions from other issues, so you don’t have to deal with them. But they can have disastrous consequences.
Choose a form of escapism which is nourishing and does no harm, like watching Young Sheldon 😊
And, finding a still, centred and calm place in yourself is always good for replenishment and to develop contact with your inner wisdom. To access an audio to practise sitting meditation, click on this link.
