Seth Godin wrote in his blog this Monday…

“Under the circumstances

Everyone is always doing their best.

Given their situation, priorities, and awareness (the circumstances), people make choices.

If we want to change how others respond, we need to change their circumstances and how they see their options.”

Yes, I learned something similar back in the day.

It went like this…

Everyone is doing the best that they can with the resources they have now.

The critical words are in italics.

Whatever your circumstances and however you see your options…

The bottom line is that how you respond (which implies some consciousness; otherwise, you’d be reacting) depends on your inner resources.

And that means the quality and quantity of things like, for example, your:

• Emotional intelligence
• Self-awareness
• Belief systems
• Perceptual filters
• Centredness
• Logical intelligence
• Psychological mindedness

And Godin’s last line is flawed: “If we want to change how others respond, we need to change their circumstances and how they see their options.”

All well and good. However…

You can create all the remedial programmes you like to help people change their responses, BUT those programmes only work if people are open to and willing to change.

The latter are two other inner resources essential for personal and spiritual growth!

As someone on the left politically, I hope those on the far right become blessed with such openness and willingness to change.

Oh, I do hope so, but…

Undoubtedly, those on the far right are thinking the same about me!

Love and wild warm wishes…
