Rest as Sacred Resistance
In a world that values speed, getting things done, achievement, ya-di-ya-di-ya, we’ve forgotten the value and power of resting, and it’s assigned to sleeping which can be anything but restful at times.
But rest can be a quiet doorway back to what’s been forgotten, because…
Rest is not just a pause from doing, it’s a return to being.
And an opportunity to remember the ancient rhythms within you, when your body knew when to stop before exhaustion, and your Wild Soul’s call to listen was obeyed.
Indeed, I’m old enough to remember how, in primary school, near the end of the day, we were asked to put our heads down on crossed arms on our desks, close our eyes and rest… A welcome 10-minute de-stress before going home.
Imagine resting like that any time of day when your body calls you to take a break.
For many women, especially in midlife, we’ve spent decades working in systems that don’t honour our cycles. We’ve been taught to override our bodies’ needs until fatigue and anxiety come knocking… And even then, we struggle on.
What if burnout is your Wild Soul’s way of making you stop?
When you do, your nervous system exhales, your breath deepens, and your inner world softens enough for your truth to surface.
In that stillness, you can listen to your inner wisdom; what’s right for you and not right for you. And there are healings that can’t happen in motion, that can’t happen when you’re busying yourself with doing, doing, doing!
What if rest is a ritual of devotion?
What if it’s a holy pause, an opportunity for you to come back and recognise yourself as the precious being you are? When you rest… if you truly rest… you enter sacred time; spacious, cyclical, and intuitive.
A woman remembers she doesn’t have to earn her worth because it’s inherent in her being.
Rest is also sacred resistance because it restores alignment.
Your intuition sharpens, as does your connection with your inner wisdom. Your creativity returns naturally without being forced. You stop chasing clarity and begin to receive it instead.
Rest is not what you earn when the work is completed.
Rest is the work of remembrance… Reconnection with your sacred self and all that flows from that re-membering.
So, rest, woman, rest!
