I’ve become increasingly averse to loud noises, including voices!
Travelling up to town, two young women several seats to my right were conversing. Well, one young woman was doing all the talking, barely stopping for breath, speaking uber-quickly and so loudly I could hear her over the tube train noises.
And that’s saying something!
The sound of her voice was like a drill going into my brain and, eventually, I was able to move seats far enough away not to hear her… Blessed relief!
While noise pollution is often dismissed as a minor inconvenience, for many, especially sensitive, mature women, it can feel like an assault on all our senses.
Yes, there is the thing about older people being more sensitive to loud sounds, like the parent who can’t tolerate their teenager’s music being played at full volume… But that could be a statement about the quality of the music, more than anything else, says she, tongue-in-cheek!
Many of my clients, thoughtful, self-aware women, find themselves increasingly unable to tolerate environments that feel chaotic or abrasive. And I wonder how much of that could also be triggered by the unstable world order and energy we’re experiencing through the collective unconscious.
Like the rise of “strong” macho bullies to positions of power, generalised misogyny, racism and all the anti-life “isms” with which we’re currently plagued!
Whatever the causes…
What once felt manageable now feels intrusive, even exhausting to some.
Noise pollution doesn’t just affect our ears; it impacts our entire being. It disrupts our ability to think clearly, to stay grounded, and to remain connected to ourselves.
In a world that often glorifies busyness and volume, choosing quiet can feel like going against the grain, but it’s a very sane act of self-respect.
For those of us on a path of healing and transformation, sensitivity becomes a guide. It invites us to create boundaries, to seek environments that nourish rather than deplete, and to honour our need for calm.
Rather than forcing ourselves to “toughen up,” the invitation is to listen more deeply to our bodies, our emotions, and our inner rhythms. In doing so, we can not only reclaim our peace but also our power, because…
What we’re experiencing, woman, is a movement towards honouring ourselves, a refinement, more boundary awareness, and nervous system truth.
Your sensitivity to loud environments isn’t something to fix.
It’s something to honour and design your life around, like me moving seats away from the loud-voiced young woman.
If anything, it’s a sign you’re becoming more aligned with your precious self, what’s nourishing for you, and what’s not…
How are you with loud noises these days?
Love and wild warm wishes…

For women who’ve reached, “There has to be more to life!”
