I’ve had it with ‘gurus’ who spread the idea horrible things have to happen to clear the way for better things to take their place.

War, a ‘horrible’ thing, is hell on earth whether it’s in Ukraine, Sudan or in our hearts!
I agree good and productive things can emerge out of hell but who says we can’t create them without it?

It’s time to bin the old saying that ‘crisis’ in Chinese means danger AND opportunity. It doesn’t!
President Kennedy once used the idea in a speech and it turned into an urban myth. But the word ‘crisis’ in Chinese means only danger. Not an opportunity in sight!
However, a personal and spiritual ‘crisis’ always gives you the opportunity for growth, of dumping redundant and usually painful ways of feeling, being and doing. Like thinking you’re not good enough, or cutting yourself off from love, or being in a relationship that stinks, or or or…
ENOUGH!

I’ve known the cost of not listening to that call, of not embracing the fear when you’re being called to change and grow.
I returned to an unfulfilling and unhappy marriage again and again when I was too shit-scared to be out there on my own. The price I paid was even more time feeling restricted, unhappy and depressed.
So, if and when you’re next in a crisis, ask yourself, what am I being called to dump? And dump it. What needs to be jettisoned? And jettison it. What do I no longer need to carry? And stop carrying it.
