In today’s hyper-connected world, it’s nearly impossible to remain untouched by what’s happening socially and geopolitically. For midlife women, who are already balancing careers, businesses, families, etc., etc., etc., the emotional impact of global unrest can be intense.
It’s not just the headlines that weigh on us, but what they stir up within us!
When we read about injustice, war, or political division, our nervous systems respond as if we’re personally under threat.
Our brains are wired for empathy and looking out for danger. For midlife women, these predilections can be amplified by shifting hormones, the uncertainty of wondering who you are now, what the feck you’re doing, and a sense that there has to be more to life than this!
What once might have rolled off your back now strikes deeper.
AND…
These triggers often bring up old wounds.
You might experience feelings of powerlessness, invisibility, overwhelm, or a fear of chaos, which you might have carried silently for decades.
Or you might feel anger or fury. Trump’s bullying does it for me!
Sometimes, I wonder how we don’t just burst!
But we don’t, and there’s a price for suppressing it all. That could be in terms of stress, exhaustion, anxiety, irritability, overwhelm, and/or a quiet sense of despair.
All the goodies!
But don’t harden against the world. Stay soft because…
Emotional triggers invite you to listen to what’s going on inside you for your healing and growth. Ask what part of you is hurting right now? What historic fear or loss is being touched?
Ultimately, being emotionally moved by the world is not a weakness.
It’s a sign of your beautiful heart, profound aliveness, and empathy.
But, in this midlife transformation time, you need to put in place boundaries as to the extent of outside distressing “vibes” you let in AND ensure you cultivate getting shedloads of the calming/loving variety too!
By looking after your own psychological well-being, you model a two-feet-on-the-ground, heart-centred way of engaging with a world that desperately needs that kind of feminine strength.
The kind of feminine strength that, like the Dalai Llama, I believe will save the world, woman.
Yes, you can be part of saving our world!
PS… What he actually said was that the Western woman would save the world, but, hey, what’s creative writing without a little poetic licence? 😊
